On the outskirts of Yosemite National Park is a natural wonder of a different kind. This is the unexpected elegant continental cuisine presented by Erna Kubin-Clanin. Originally from Austria, Erna has brought her European flair and wonderful knowledge of cooking to this small mountain village that serves as a perfect launching pad for a truly exquisite trip to the Yosemite Valley. The restaurant is located about 45 minutes from Fresno Airport, and is associated with Erna's other brain child, the Chateau du Surreau, where you can stay in pampered surroundings reminiscent of an Austrian chalet and villa.
Jim enjoyed the extensive wine menu, the blazing fire places, and especially the food, which included a Tasmanian sea trout pancetta appetizer and a lightly smoked lamb loin with grilled rosemary sausage roasted fingerling potatoes. Desserts include vanilla bean panna cotta and triple chocolate bread pudding. And don't forget the namesake of the restaurant, the Elderberry, which is featured as an ingredient in some dishes.
It is interesting to check out the many activities associated with this restaurant, such as Erna's annual "A Night in Vienna." Also, if you are planning a trip to Yosemite, Erna's staff can arrange for special tour guides and other activities associated with Yosemite.
