The Duck Club Grill is situated directly over Monterey Bay in a formal but relaxed setting with panoramic views of Monterey Harbor and the Bay. You won't see any of the commercialism often associated with Cannery Row. Instead you will experience an elegant and authentic setting. Go at sunset and be lulled into the rhythm of the Bay itself: sea otters diving, boats drifting by, seals barking in the distance, the soft crash of waves on the rocky beach below.
As you walk into the restaurant, you’ll sense an intriguing mix of salt spray from the Bay and cooking garlic and herbs from the open kitchen. As night falls, watch the twinkling lights awaken around the Bay as you eat great food on your candlelit table.
Anything with artichoke (grown in nearby Castroville) is great here, including Salinas Valley sourced salads and vegetables. Steaks are excellent Angus beef and come with very creative sauce preparations. Of course any restaurant that calls itself the Duck Club Grill would have a signature duck dish, in this case the Steinbeck's Duck, a half duck roasted in the open hearths of the open kitchen.
There are some tasty pasta dishes mixed with fresh local seafood. The adjacent lively Schooners Bistro on the Bay, serves as the bar for the Duck Club. It offers lighter fare at a lighter price, has great specials, including a killer clam chowder served in a sour dough bread bowl and an occasional strawberry shortcake, with the same romantic views.
The Hotel and Spa are equally romantic.
