Finding good Mexican food in San Francisco is not that hard. Finding great Mexican food is the real challenge. I always look for a signature dish at a restaurant that I want to go back to again and again. My favorite dish at San Jalisco is Pollo en Mole.
San Jalisco is a family owned restaurant with great service and wonderfully prepared food.
Some of my other favorite dishes at San Jalisco include: Caldo de Pollo, a very good spicy chicken soup that helps when you have the beginnings of a cold; a Seafood Cocktail with prawns, clams, oysters, crab, octopus, avocado, pico de gallo and tomato sauce; Coctel Jason served warm or cold; Tilapia frita, and Celesteís Pork Fiesta, a beautiful combination plate of Chile Verde, Carnitas, and Chicherrones. Itís more than enough for anyone. Then thereís one of the best Dulce Flanís I have tasted in a long time.
San Jalisco is located in the heart of the Mission district in San Francisco and is a little known gem that is not on most peopleís radar. This place has the feeling of being in a the kitchen of a good friendís mother.
I come from the East Coast and didnít grow up with Mexican food. Itís an acquired taste for me. I have had to work really hard to find dishes that I like. San Jalisco has plenty of them.
