Just off Broadway, Iron Steaks is still considered a downtown establishment even though it’s a little way off the Capitol grid.
Overall, Iron Steaks is on par with other downtown establishments, with well prepared food and a pleasant decor that would be equally fitting for a quiet business meeting or date.
The restaurant offers a full menu of American cuisine, but the best offering is the “Stirling Silver Steak,” perfectly aged and expertly prepared. I had the Iron Salad, New York steak with grilled asparagus and sautéed wild mushrooms. Attention to detail is apparent; the side dishes are not after thoughts, but well planned and expertly prepared. Try the mushrooms, grilled seasonal veggies, bacon roasted potatoes, or jalapeño polenta.
The wine selection is limited but Iron Steaks has no corkage fee, so I recommend you bring your own.
There is an excellent Happy Hour, with great bar bites – try the tempura green beans, thai fries, or jerked shrimp tacos – and an interesting array of adult beverages ranging from PBR to kurant cosmos.
The decor is minimalist modern, with an inviting, open concept bar and dining area that is private enough for quiet conversation without feeling like you’d been locked in a closet.
If you work in the Capitol or are in town for business and want a bit of a break, with great food in a pleasant atmosphere - and just a bit off the grid - Iron Steaks is a perfect choice.
